Gaucho WoodworkingWe received an email and some photographs of a project from carpenter Robert Slack of Gaucho Woodworking. He was in the process of installing mortise locks into doors and was struggling to find an easy way to accomplish the task. Fortunately, he got in touch with us as we had the perfect solution: the Plexiglas template routing aid (495 246). This accessory is perfectly suited for any application where you need to position the router (center or otherwise) on narrow stock. This is just one of a myriad of Festool router accessories designed specifically to make the most difficult tasks simple.

Here's what Robert had to say:

I was having major challenges coming up with a template to install mortise locks. There are dedicated machines and accessories for this application. However, in the environment of the finish carpenter, where we need to have flexibility of our tools, it would be a lot better to have something which can be used for other applications as well.

When I made a decision with Gaucho Woodworking to partner with a tool manufacturer, I chose Festool because of the quality, support and the amount of time saved by using them.

After a lot of frustration, I found a router accessory offered by Festool called the Plexiglas Template. While this item is hidden in the list of router accessories in the catalog, it is definitely a hidden gem.

Using this accessory, my job was made extremely simple. Knocking out mortise locks quickly, accurately and professionally.

Thanks to Robert for sharing his experience with the Plexiglas template. For more information, contact your preferred Festool dealer.

If you want to learn more about the Plexiglas Template and see it in use, Gary Katz has a video showing the Festool OF 1400 and OF 2200 routers being set up with this accessory to install a multi-point lock in his shop door. In part two of his video, you can watch him rout the mortises and install the locking mechanism.
