Charles Peterson - Hardwood Flooring

Charles Peterson, an instructor with the National Wood Flooring Association and respected expert on the topic, recently teamed up with This Old House to produce a video showing how to install a herringbone floor.

In the video, Charles uses several Festool power tools, his preferred tools for the task. The photo above is an example of Charles' work and it is the floor that students produce during their NWFA class with Charles. We've seen quite a few exquisite examples of decorative floors over the years produced with Festool.

Charles also produced an instructional book, Wood Flooring: A Complete Guide to Layout, Installation & Finishing, that is 330 pages of documented examples of his work. His book has become the definitive reference on wood flooring has been published after thirty years of research. It is an invaluable resource for home owners, interior designers, architects, historic preservationist, builders, craftsmen, inspectors and even faux painters.

If you're really good at installing flooring, you can always go for the world record. On March 3rd, 2011, a team of flooring installers broke the world record for parquet flooring installation using the Festool TS 55 and dust extractors at the Dutch Parkett Championships. Now, that's working faster, easier and smarter!
